Henrik Johansson, a twenty-one-year-old professional online high stakes player from Sweden, celebrated a Euro 129,700 boost to his bank balance, and his first WSOP bracelet, Tuesday after winning the second event in this year’s World Series of Poker Europe, currently taking place at Casino Barrière near Paris, France.
It was the young pro’s first live tournament, made all the more remarkable because he qualified for a seat through a lottery on 888 Poker.
Johansson had to battle his way through a packed field of 658 other players, many of them respected professionals on the international poker circuit, to reach a final table consisting of Adriano Torre-Grossa, Yaniv Botbol, Daniel Weinman, Serge Ekert, Daniel Laidlaw, Jose Obadia, Jean-Philippe Tuffery and Andrei Konopelko.
Johansson’s final opponent in the heads up, which he entered with an almost 2 to 1 chip advantage, was Adriano Torre-Grossa; it was a relatively brief affair of just 22 hands which Johansson dominated to send Torre-Grossa home with the Euro 80,250 runner-up prize.
