It was fifth time lucky for Denver poker pro Will Givens Tuesday – after achieving four WSOP cashes he finally managed to survive a star-studded field of 1,840 other players to win through to his second final table, and then leverage that into a win worth $306,634…and his first WSOP bracelet.
Event 45 was a $1,000 buy-in NLHE competition carrying a prize pool of $1,656,900 which took three days to play out.
Givens was among 11 players still in action on Day 3, with Amanda Prada-Moed – a 29-year-old amateur player who is a pastry chef in her other life – leading the way as a final table formed.
Givens came into his own in the latter stages of the final table, dominating play to end up with a 3 to 1 chip lead over Prada-Moed in the heads up, which lasted for just 30 hands before the amateur’s creditable performance ended with a second placing pay-day of $189,632.
The big win brings Givens’ earnings in this year’s WSOP so far to $420,000.
Other final table pay-outs were:
Paul Sokoloff $131,110
David Hass $94,559
Patrick Curzio $69,125
Duy Ho $51,198
Dimitry Shchepkin $38,423
Ivan Saul $29,211
Loren Klein $22,484
