A land, air and river police search in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana has been called off after the body of a man found on the banks of a river in the city was confirmed through DNA testing to be German poker pro Johannes Strassmann.
Strassmann (29) had been missing for almost a week, and had been visiting Slovenia to meet with local high stakes players.
His disappearance from the old town section of the city triggered a major police investigation and search.
A police statement reports that Strassmann was last seen at 10pm last Saturday in Gornji street, and that his body was discovered Friday in the Ljubljanica River, ending a comprehensive search after DNA testing indicated the body was that of the missing German.
“The criminal police investigators excluded a violent criminal offence. The laboratory tests of bodily fluids are still ongoing,” the statement concludes.
