The Isle of Man-based online poker operator Pokerstars is gearing up for another gigantic poker tournament that it hopes will break its own record for the most players in action online at the same time.
The company is planning a $1 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament for February 23 on its dotcom site as it seeks to break the record – something it has repeatedly achieved over the years in showing off its technological quality and capability…and the popularity of its product.
Encouraging a little national fervour, the arrangements include a facility through which entrants can visually proclaim their national identity in their avatars.
This time around the target is to get 230,000 players online in a single tournament, all vying for a first place check for $25,000 and cashes for the last 60,000 entrants to survive the massive field.
Despite the low buy-in, Pokerstars is also offering a range of qualifying satellites and promotional opportunities to win entry to the big tournament, details of which are on the company website.
The current record is 225,000 players online simultaneously, achieved in June last year, so this is more an incremental step up, albeit one that few rivals can match.
Players are advised to register early – in past record breaking attempts the cap on entries has been met several hours ahead of the tournament.
