Crown Melbourne and Pokerstars have announced that the 2014 Aussie Millions poker tournament main event will become part of the PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour next year.
The sixteenth annual edition of the Aussie Millions commences on January 23 and includes a A$10,600 buy-in main event starting February 2, along with A$25,000 buy-in Challenge; A$100,000 buy-in Challenge and A$250,000 buy-in Challenge events.
“The Aussie Millions is regarded as one of the marquee poker events globally,” Crown Resorts chief operating officer Xavier Walsh said Tuesday. “Aligning with the biggest poker tour in the region, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour, will further guarantee the event’s success in coming years.
“This initiative will provide Crown with significant exposure in Asia, Europe and America, and forms an integral part of Crown’s global marketing strategy to attract further international visitors to Australia and Crown Melbourne.”
The Asia-Pacific Poker Tour has been an outstanding success since its introduction by Pokerstars back in 2007. The 2014 tour, the seventh in the series, includes stops in the Philippines, South Korea, Macau, New Zealand, and Australia.
APPT president Danny McDonagh said: “The Aussie Millions becoming part of the APPT is a great fit for both Crown Melbourne and Global Poker Tours Ltd. Linking one of the best tournaments in Asia-Pacific with the region’s biggest poker tour benefits everyone.”
