28-year-old Austrian poker pro Stefan Jedlicka leaves the Mediterranean island of Malta this weekend with a lot more money than when he landed, thanks to some serious rewards at the poker tables of the European Malta Tour Malta just ended.
In a very successful week, he won Euro 4,540 in the IPT main event; a Euro 88,039 win in the IPT High Roller, a third placing in a side event for Euro 35,600 and then to cap it all, a Euro 335,200 victory in the Euro 10,000 buy-in High Roller competition.
The Austrian ace is closing the year on the crest of a wave; just two months ago at EPT Barcelona, Jedlicka claimed the Euro 251,500 main prize in the ESPT 7 High Roller.
In the Malta competition 144 entries generated a prize pool of Euro 1,396,800, but by the final day just eight remained around a final table headed by Belgian veteran Pierre Neuville, with Jedlicka down among the lower stacks.
He did not stay there long, steadily building a chip count on the back of opponents’ mistakes and eliminations.
By the time Swedish pro Theo Jorgenson busted at third for Euro 150,850 Jedlicka was chip leader with a slight advantage over a determined Neuville, and the duo settled in for what proved to be a tough, over three-hour heads up.
Although he came close on several occasions, Neuville was unable to wrest the lead from his Austrian nemesis, and in the end was dispatched with a second placing prize of Euro 228,400.
The rest of the final table cashes were:
Kilian Kramer out at eighth for Euro 43,300
Charlie Carrel in seventh place for Euro 58,670
Liviu Ignat in sixth place Euro 78,400
Cristian Egues fifth Euro 99,870
Michael Kane fourth Euro 134,330
