American player Carter Gill, whose shock and disappointment at a badbeat in a tournament went viral on YouTube earlier this year, had nothing but smiles this week after taking down the last Latin American Poker Tour event for 2013 at the Mantra Resort, Spa and Casino in Punta del Esta, Uruguay.
The event attracted 508 entries and by the time the final table was reached Gill was in firm control as chip leader, a position he managed to maintain right through to the heads up against Ivan Raich.
Raich proved he’s no slouch at the table when under pressure, and fought back sufficiently to convince Gill that a two-way chop would be a good idea, with Gill taking $194,692 and Raich $172,568, leaving $24,000 on the table for the ultimate winner.
The duo than got down to business in an intense heads up that saw the lead change several times before Gill was able to work his way into a two-to-one advantage and finish his plucky opponent off.
The win was worth $218,692 to Gill, whilst Raich took home a well-deserved $172,568. Other final table pay-outs looked like this:
Ariel Mantel $106,300
Andre Korn $79,100
Juan Perez Solari $59,840
Cesar Sanguinetti $45,100
Joao “Bauer” NetoCesar $33,780
Walid Mubarak $25,840
