One the earlier Bitcoin-denominated online casino and poker sites, Betcoin, has informed players at short notice that it is to shutter its online poker element, apparently following a change of ownership. It appears that online casino, live dealer and sports betting operations will continue however.
The notification advised that the change of ownership (the new owner is not identified) took place on December 18, and the poker section closed on December 25.
Poker players on various forums are now seeking an answer to an important question that is not covered by the closure announcement – what is the plan for the 40 BTC (approximately $800,000) BBJ that the players have generated?
In its three years of operations Betcoin has on a number of occasions been the subject of player complaints on the forums ranging from bot activity on cash games to allegations of collusion and unreasonably high rake fees.
