Veteran Brit poker pro Barney Boatman has achieved his second World Series of Poker winner’s bracelet and boosted his bank balance by Euro 54,725 by taking down the Euro 550 buy-in PLO event at the WSOP Europe tournament in Berlin.
The event, which completed over the weekend, attracted a total field of 503 (363 entries and 140 re-entries).
Doug Lee held the chip lead when the final table formed, but managed only a fifth place finish on a table that included Boatman, Polish players Grzegorz Grochulski, Dominik Maska and Pawel Bakiewicz, along with Shannon Shor and Jose Obedia.
Shor was eliminated at third for Euro 24,520 opening the door to the one hour heads up between Boatman and Grzegorz Grochulski, with the UK player holding a 2 to 1 lead.
His Polish opponent fought back grimly and at one time managed to snatch the lead, but the rally didn’t last and Boatman was able to send Grochulski to the exit and a runner-up consolation prize of Euro 33,190.
Other final table cashes included:
Jose Obedia Euro 18,000
Doug Lee Euro 13,320
Dominik Maska Euro 9,980
Pawel Bakiewicz Euro 7,560
Damian Pawlak Euro 5,780
