The Bodog poker brand is seeking a foothold in the potentially lucrative Brazilian market, where gambling expansion moves are tortuously making their way through the nation’s political system (see previous reports).
The franchise has signed as a sponsor for the H2 Poker Club in São Paulo, arguably the biggest of its kind in this large South American country.
The agreement will permit Bodog to launch a branded lounge within the club, backed by an extensive media publicity campaign, and opening its doors within the next few months.
H2 Club Marketing Coordinator Luana Bran said the deal carries benefits for both parties and would enhance entertainment and opportunities for the player community.
More legal gambling options in Brazil have the potential to create major new commercial and tax revenues from a very large playing population.
According to the action group Instituto de Jogo Legal, illegal gambling generates annual revenues of around US$6.4 billion in the country, monies that under a more liberal legislative regime could be going to companies and contributing to provincial or federal government taxes in Brazil.
Bodog’s Poker, Casino, and Sports brands have been available to Brazilian players since February this year. InfoPowa readers may also recall that just days ago news broke that land gambling mogul Sheldon Adelson was making overtures to the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, offering to develop a $8 billion land casino resort.
