Concerns over weakening online poker performance in Delaware.

By RP, November 29, 2017

The online poker information site Legal US Poker Sites published an interesting article on Delaware’s struggling online poker market this week, pointing to comparative year-to-date figures going back to 2014.

The numbers show a definite first to third quarter YTD decline:
2014 YTD online poker total through first three quarters: $506,915
2015 YTD online poker total through first three quarters: $308,261
2016 YTD online poker total through first three quarters: $375,936
2017 YTD online poker total through first three quarters: $179,212

Legal US Poker Sites comments that there is little in the way of explanation for the decline, other than obvious factors such as a lack of promotions to attract new players; a lack of sufficient liquidity to keep current players, and “little inspiration for players to enter the world of online poker for more than a quick game or brief experience.”

The information sites notes that the decline in Delaware is similar to less severe downswings in the New Jersey online poker market.

New Jersey’s decision to join Delaware and Nevada in a shared player pool offers the prospect of improvement, as does the advent in 2018-19 of online poker as part of Pennsylvania’s recently legalised online gambling market, and the possibility that it may also join the shared pool.
