Pokerstars marketers have come up with a novel reason to hold satellite qualifiers online – a new television show titled “The Shark Cage” which will feature a prize of $1 million.
The first two televised heats of the show will take place at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2014, according to a Pokerstars statement Monday.
The Shark Cage is a series of eight heats geographically dispersed across the company’s European Poker Tour stops next year. The climax will be a final table in which survivors will compete for the winner-takes-all $1 million.
As the title implies, this will be a shark-puller, with each heat comprising one online qualifier and five killer pros – a daunting but stimulating prospect and one that should generate plenty of interest among the bold and the skilled.
The show will focus on fun, table talk, and include rules such as ‘Play Against the Clock’ (30 seconds to act), ‘Don’t Get Bluffed’ (rewards and penalties for successful and unsuccessful river bluffs), and ‘No Deals’ (winner-take-all first prize, no deals allowed).
To be in with a chance of winning a trip to the Caribbean in January, and play in one of the televised heats with a chance to take a shot at the $1 million first prize later in the year, PokerStars players simply need to make a deposit using one of the bonus codes on the Pokerstars website to get a ticket or tickets to the qualifying tournaments that take place each day from November 25-30 at 15.00 ET.
Each qualifying tournament will have a $5,000 added cash prize and the top 50 players from each of the six qualifiers will get a chance to audition for The Shark Cage TV show. To do this, a qualifying player simply needs to record a video audition in English, upload it to YouTube and then email the link to sharkcage@pokerstars.com no later than 23.59 ET on December 8.
The PokerStars Team will judge the entries based on personality, enthusiasm, humour and talent, and will contact the top finalists for phone interviews before announcing the winners on Dec 17.
