Norway’s more practical approach to poker following years of prohibition that has forced national competitions to be held offshore has resulted in the first – and very successful – locally held championships, which concluded in Oslo this week.
Over 2,000 players took part in the competitions, which culminated in a main event won by professional player Felix Stephensen, who took home Euro 160,000 and the distinction of becoming the first Norwegian to win the title on home ground.
However, Norwegian liberalisation still has a long way to go when it comes to poker, where political debate on legalisation continues.
