Florida poker pro Darryll Fish scored his first World Poker Tour title on his home turf this week, taking down the $3,500 buy-in WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.
Fish bested a field of 911 to claim the main prize of $511,604, his biggest yet individual score in a live tourney career that has seen him amass almost $4 million in earnings.
The final table started with plenty of competitive aggression, whittling the final six down to just two players relatively quickly. Fish was left facing Russian ace Aleksandr Shevelev, who held a significant lead.
The chip disadvantage did not disturb Fish’s focus on his game, and he soon bridged the gap, creating a exciting game dynamic which saw the lead change several times during the next 122 hands, and ultimately resulted in Fish emerging the winner.
Shevelev’s second placing gave him a pay day of $331,116, and the rest of the final table cashes looked like this:
