German pro poker player Jonas “llJaYJaYll” Lauck is a happy man today after banking the top $1,517,541 prize in the $5,000 buy-in NLHE Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker.
He is not alone in his celebrations; the final table survivors all took home impressive pay-checks from the massive $10,052,879.79 prize pool created by 2,091 entries and re-entries, $5 million of which was reserved for the finalists.
Overall, 224 entrants cashed in this year’s main event.
It was a hard, three-day slog to decide the winner as an impressive array of very good players pitted their skills against one another.
Lauck’s confidence in his ability to win despite two attempts at a chop late in the final stages of the game paid off handsomely when he collected the full first prize after a hard-fought heads up against player 0409479 from the United Kingdom, who took home the runner-up prize of $1,101,278.90.
The big win was Lauck’s best career earn so far, in fact it exceeded his total career earnings preceding the victory by several hundred thousand dollars.
A large online audience watched the event, thanks to live streaming on the PokerStars Twitch channel.
