Television coverage for the upcoming 12-team Global Poker League clashes has been assured following an important partnership deal between GPL owner Mediarex Sports and Entertainment and the poker-dedicated television network Poker Central.
In a joint statement the partnership announced that Poker Central will air both live and recorded GPL matches in primetime twice weekly beginning in early April in exclusive coverage that will include both pregame and postgame shows for increased audience interest.
Poker Central will also air the GPL playoffs and GPL World Championship, the statement noted.
Earlier this week the GPL announced the managers and team franchises in the GPL project, which will see many of the world’s top players competing in high value tournaments (see previous reports).
“Both Poker Central and GPL were created for the same reason – to take poker to the masses and to make it as popular as any other professional sport,” said Alex Dreyfus, CEO and founder of the Global Poker League in the statement. “PokerCentral will help GPL connect to fans worldwide.”
