The UK journalist and poker tournament ace Victoria Coren Mitchell made history over the weekend, securing her second and record European Poker Tour main event victory in the Euro 4,900 main event in San Remo.
Her first victory in the event was in the third season of the EPT in London.
Coren Mitchell started the final table as the low stack but soon showed her talent in not only surviving, but besting very competent international players like Giacomo Fundaro, Jordan Westmorland, Andrea Benelli, Andreas Geller, Bruno Stefanelli, Andrija Martic and Emmanuel Pariset.
Three-handed, it was Coren Mitchell, US young gun Jordan Westmorland and Giacomo Fundaro of Italy making the chip lead see-saw until Coren Mitchell managed to oust Westmoreland, giving her a 3 to 1 lead going into the heads up again Fundaro.
Expertly exploiting that lead, Mitchell Coren was able to quickly dispatch her last opponent, sending him to the exit and a runner up prize of Euro 298,700.
For besting the field of 555 and a tough final table, Coren Mitchell took home an expensive watch, Euro 476,100…and that record breaking title.
Other pay-outs on the final table were:
3 Jordan Westmorland United States Euro 213,850
4 Andrea Benelli Italy Euro 166,700
5 Andreas Goeller Italy Euro 130,750
6 Bruno Stefanelli Italy Euro 102,700
7 Andrija Martic Croatia Euro 76,650
8 Emmanuel Pariset France Euro 53,100
