A day of highs and lows for U.S. gambling expansion as the New York Senate Finance Committee passed online poker bill S3898, Tuesday.
The bill, sponsored by Senator John Bonacic, will progress to the New York Senate to be heard for a second time having been shelved in the last session (see previous reports).
Enactment of S3898 would see certain types of poker classified and legalized as skill games, formalize a regulatory regime under the New York State Gaming Commission and levy a 15 percent tax on gross revenue.
The Pennsylvania Senate on Community, Economic and Recreational Development (CERD) committee, on the other hand, cancelled a much anticipated hearing to discuss gambling expansion bills, Tuesday.
In a tweet, the Poker Player’s Alliance (PPA) said the move was not totally unexpected due to a “lot of moving parts”. CERD is expected to reschedule the hearings in the near future.
