Twenty-three-year-old German professional poker player Ole Schemion is probably celebrating a remarkable achievement this weekend – his fourth seven-figure live tournament win in a sparkling career that has rewarded him with earnings of over $10 million.
Schemion’s latest victory came in the Euro 100,000 buy-in Super High Roller at the European Poker Tour Grand Finals in Monte Carlo. The NLHE competition saw him best an impressive range of opponents to claim the first prize of Euro 1,775,500.
Eight players survived a highly competitive field of 61 to face each other on the final table, with Schemion around the middle of the pack on chip counts, and each player guaranteed to take home at least Euro 236,750.
After initially playing a disciplined and careful game, Schemion took the action up several gears as the eliminations mounted. After he despatched businessman Ali Reza Fatehi at third for Euro 828,500, Schemion found himself facing his final opponent, the formidable Italian pro Mustapha Kanit (25).
With Schemion holding an almost 3 million chip advantage, the two professionals were prepared to split the winnings and end the competition immediately, but tournament officials were having none of it and required the two players to leave Euro 50,000 and the title on the table and play to a conclusion.
With that decided, the duo behaved in the expected professional manner, giving it their all in an entertaining and exciting clash from which Schemion emerged the winner.
Kanit’s well-deserved runner-up prize was Euro 1,462,000.
Other final table cashes were:
4 Igor Kurganov (Russia) Euro 627,300

6 Stephen Chidwick (UK) Euro 378,750
