Norwegian police in the capital Oslo carried out a major anti-illegal gambling operation this week, simultaneously shuttering five poker rooms and making five arrests in late-evening raids..
Over a hundred uniformed police were involved in the raids, which were reportedly based on suspicions that illegal gambling was being carried out at the clubs.
Whilst playing poker is not a criminal offence in Norway, and organised games in residences are permitted, the law draws the line when it comes to organisers making money out of it ie through a rake.
A police spokesman warned through the media that further police actions may take place. He revealed that the police action was based on allegations by the Norwegian Gaming Authority.
