Jason Mercier claimed his third Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) victory of the week Sunday, reeling in the $2,100 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em 4-Max competition after besting Canadian pro Ryan Franklin in the heads up.
His reward this time was the biggest so far at $178,457.73 following a two-way chop with Franklin at the heads up stage.
Starting the heads up with a 2 to 1 chip lead, Mercier displayed outstanding skill and aggression to dispatch a tough opponent, sending Franklin home with $152,789.71.
The event pulled in 398 entrants, generating a prize pool of $796,000, which gave 48 finishers the chance to cash.
Our readers will recall that at the start of the tournament last week Mercier enjoyed two major wins in as many days in events 5 and 8, giving him an early take-home totaling $73,600. He survived a field of 56 to emerge victorious in the $2,100 buy-in FL Badugi competition and claim the $39,200 main prize, and then went on to enter the $2,100 buy-in NL Draw contest with 42 other players, where he claimed another first prize, this one worth $34,400.
He went on to achieve three more small cashes and is currently top of the current series leader board, as well as equalling the achievements of George Danzer and Dan Kelly, who can also claim victory in 6 SCOOP events.
Other final table rewards were:
Calvin “cal42688” Anderson $68,408.24
Russian player TransSib $42,315.36
AnyGameSir from Poland $27,565.48
