New York poker pro Jose Montes (29) is enjoying a great start to 2015, following his $352,669 triumph last month in the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Choctaw Durant, where he bested a field of 1,363, with another significant win this week.
In his latest victory the New Yorker beat 761 entrants in the $1,650 buy-in Heartland Poker Tour Golden Gates tournament to claim a first prize worth $240,523.
In the heads up Montes faced a formidable foe in the highly experienced Albuquerque pro, Joe Serock and the evenly matched duo went at it for several hours, with the lead changing a number of times before Montes managed to eliminate his opponent and send him home with the runner up prize of $148,895.
