The latest Pokerstars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is only four days old and already online poker aces Jason Mercier and Sorel Mizzi are well ahead, winning substantial prizes.
Mizzi has scored the biggest pay day thus far in this year’s edition, winning $354,960 in event 3, a $2,100 buy-in NL Hold’em contest with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.
Mizzi bested an entry field of 985 other players after sending his last opponent, a Polish player with the handle “husajn54” to the virtual exit and a runner up prize of $256,360.
Earlier, Mercier enjoyed two major wins in as many days in events 5 and 8, giving him an early take-home totaling $73,600. He survived a field of 56 to emerge victorious in the $2,100 buy-in FL Badugi competition and claim the $39,200 main prize, and then went on to enter the $2,100 buy-in NL Draw contest with 42 other players, where he claimed another first prize, this one worth $34,400.
The first event of the current series also produced a big winner when a player with the handle “TheDegenFund” defeated pro player Pratyush Buddiga to claim the main prize of $207,720 in the $1,050 buy-in NLHE event.
Ten events have been played so far in this year’s SCOOP, so there’s plenty more action and prize money in store.
