The US federal enforcement official widely seen as the strategist behind the prosecution and shutdown of US online poker back in 2011, Preet Bharara, was in the news again this week following a meeting with US president-elect Donald Trump in which he was apparently told that he would be remaining in his post under the new administration.
The Washington newspaper Politico reported that Bharara told local reporters that he had been asked by both Trump and his likely AG nominee Jeff Sessions to remain as U.S. Attorney for the southern district in Manhattan, retaining the responsibilities he had held since his appointment by President Obama in 2009.
