The Americas Cardroom online poker operator was hit by a “pretty large” series of Distributed Denial of Service attacks by persons unknown Sunday, with the hackers demanding an undisclosed ransom in Bitcoins to stop swamping the servers with data.
Although the attacks disrupted the company’s Million Dollar Sunday afternoon tournament, causing a loss estimated by CEO Phil Nagy at $300,000, the cardroom refused to knuckle down to the attackers and fought off the assaults.
“You can’t give in to terrorism,” Nagy said on the Twitch live streaming channel, which Americas Cardroom used to good effect in keeping players advised of developments (see cached stream at http://www.twitch.tv/justsomefish72/v/15897968).
