According to Multichannel News, Poker Central will not renew its Pay TV contracts due to close at the end of this month.
The TV channel’s “linear programming stream” is reportedly shutting down while its app content live streaming from the existing network will also end, the report details.
A playlist of Poker Central programmes will apparently still be available as free, ad-supported video on demand, Joe Kakaty, president of Poker Central told Multichannel News.
“It’s a digital pivot because we saw our millennial audience wanted more content. But they wanted new, original content.”
Poker Central will reportedly focus on social media and mobile having found these to be less challenging channels than cable-network distribution but will continue a presence across television by way of CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network.
“TV is not going away — it’s just how we’ll work with TV that is going to change,” Kakaty commented.
