Pokerstars has augmented its already extensive list of international live poker tournaments by signing an agreement with the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The deal will see the development of a Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship (SHRPOC) series, through which Pokerstars online players will be able to buy-in from their online accounts.
The inaugural event in the new partnership kicks off August 14 and runs through September 3, with a massive main event guaranteed prize pool of $10 million, and an additional $100,000 Super High Roller event with re-entries scheduled for September 1.
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship (SHRPOC) series features 24 events including a $5,300 buy-in Main Event.
In related news, Pokerstars has pulled out of the Montreal live poker festival at short notice, a move confirmed on the twoplustwo forum by spokesman Lee Jones.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, PokerStars will not be continuing its participation in the upcoming festival,” Jones wrote. “However, the tournament will continue as planned as the ‘Playground Festival of Poker’ and we will, of course, honor our previous commitment to players and satellite winners. No other PokerStars services in Canada are affected.”
The Montreal Poker Festival is scheduled to run from August 22 and September 3 at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, Canada, and features 16 events including a $1 million guaranteed, $1,100 buy-in main event.
Some Canadian media reports have linked the sudden exit from the tournament with the acquisition of Pokerstars’ parent group Rational by the Montreal-based Amaya Gaming group.
