The eighth anniversary of Pokerstars’ popular Sunday Million online poker tournament series is to be marked by a massive investment by the Isle of Man-based company in a guaranteed prize pool of $8 million
That means that the ultimate winner of the March 2 tournament will take home a minimum of $650,000 for a buy-in of $215…or less if he or she manages to qualify through the $1 satellite opportunities available every half hour from the end of February in which thousands of entries to the big event will be up for grabs.
The latest guarantee overtakes that offered last year, when Pokerstars invested $7 million in its seventh anniversary Sunday Million prize pool, an epic that pulled in almost 50,000 players and resulted in a Lithuanian pokerhead taking home the winner’s check for $848,589 after a three-way, six-figure chop in the final stages.
The biggest Sunday Million on record unfolded in December 2011, when 62,116 players took to the virtual felt at Pokerstars to fight for the lion’s share of a massive $12,423,200 prize pool. Winner Kyle “First-Eagle” Weir from the Great White North collected a first place check for $1,146,574 in that one.
