Pokerstars’ innovative lottery-style Spin and Go online poker tournaments appear to be taking the recreational player segment by storm, although there are concerns that this is at the expense of cash game traffic.
Statistics released by the company show that the 3-max, hyper-turbo tournaments racked up 7.3 million games in the first 10 days from launch, and the popularity of the genre shows little sign of abating.
That popularity is fuelled by numbers that show that 787 players achieved 5-digit wins, with 20 of them hitting grand jackpots of $30,000 thanks to massive multipliers – 377 players hit 1000x multipliers.
It’s early days yet, but numbers from the independent online poker monitor Pokerscout indicate that cash game traffic at Pokerstars has declined at least 9.2 percent in the first week following the introduction of Spin and Go.
