Barely a week after it pooled its players with partner 888Poker (see previous report), CIE’s online poker site WSOP.com has surged to the top of the New Jersey operator leaderboard.
According to the usually reliable reportage of independent monitor Pokerscout, the site vaulted over market leader Borgata-PartyPoker, which has retained the leading spot in terms of average cash game players almost since online poker was legalised in New Jersey back in November 2013. The partnership now occupies the third spot on the leaderboard.
Reporting on the WSOP.com surge, Pokerscout commented: “Cash game traffic is up nearly 50 percent since the merger, while 888poker has seen an increase of more than 75 percent. That’s been enough for both sites to overtake PartyPoker New Jersey to become the top two sites in the Garden State.
Certainly the changes will have an impact on the official numbers from the New Jersey regulator, and industry observers will be looking forward to the January statistics from the DGE. In revenue terms the Borgata-PartyPoker alliance held a 54 percent share of the market in December 2014, and it will be interesting to see how the player pooling has affected this element.
