John Pappas, the executive director for the Poker Players Alliance, is to front for the online poker industry today (Wednesday) in a midday address before the Illinois Senate Executive Committee of the Illinois State Assembly.
The Executive Committee is holding a hearing to discuss the pros and cons of legalised online poker in Illinois.
Pappas’ testimony on the advantages and safeguards of regulated, taxed and licensed online poker is regarded as expert information useful to the committee, and he will argue that properly regulated and licensed online poker has the potential to both bring jobs and revenue to the state while ensuring Illinois residents have a safe and fair market for playing online poker.
The PPA estimates that prior to the Black Friday shutdowns of online poker sites by the Department of Justice, there were over 200,000 active Illinois online poker players.
