Amateur and professional poker players have been flying into the charming and historic Mediterranean island of Malta this week to compete in the Battle of Malta poker tournament, and the invasion can be measured by the record number of entries.
The organisers reported Friday that 1,803 registrations for the Battle of Malta have been received – a new record for the island, and for this popular annual event, which this year takes place at the Portomaso Casino.
The resultant prize pool has not yet been announced, but the organisers are confident that it will overtake the guarantee of Euro 500,000 and even last year’s Euro 701,795 actual prize pool.
The tournament is in full swing this weekend as 582 players made it through to Day 2, with Sergio Di Roberto holding the overnight chip lead.
