Relatively low-profile Los Angeles cash game player Smith Sirisakorn turned out the surprise winner of his first bracelet and $215,902 in prize money over the weekend in the World Series of Poker $2,500 buy-in Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Mix contest.
The young amateur, who says he rarely plays in tournaments, bested a field of 405, to enter the final table second in chip counts, trailing Larry Tull.
Ulltimately Sirisakorn faced fellow US player Jameson Painter in the heads up, with Painter playing strongly on a 3 to 2 chip lead. That led to several changes in chip lead before Sirisakorn was able to gain the upper hand and claim the victory, sending a worthy opponent home with a $133,431 runner up reward.
