Spanish poker pro Javier Rojas has triumphed in the 2015 Eureka Poker Tour Prague main event after besting WSOP 2011 main event runner up Martin Staszk in an exciting heads up to claim the main prize of Euro 311,000.
The event set new entrance records for EPT Prague when 1,893 players ponied up the Euro 1,100 registration fee, many of them respected international players.
Following several tense days of poker the final table was formed, comprising Rojas, Staszk and Simon Persson from Sweden; Gianluca Speranza and Cosimo Sabatini from Italy; Lithuanian pro Vladas Burneikis; Mihaita Croitoru of Romania; and Israeli Meir Ben Shimon.
At the four-handed stage it looked as if Rojas would be eliminated as the lowest stack, but the Spaniard stayed cool and calm, playing himself out of trouble and then building his stack until he dominated the remaining players and busted them to face Staszk in the heads up.
In a relatively short exchange Rojas bested the Czech, who nevertheless put up a good fight before heading to the exit and a Euro 172,600 payday. The entire final table action was over in just short of four hours.
Other final table cashes were:
Simon Persson Euro 120,090
Vladas Burneikis Euro 86,850
Mihaita Croitoru Euro 70,490
Meir Ben Shimon Euro 56,520
Gianluca Speranza Euro 43,210
Cosimo Sabatini Euro 30,460
