On March 20 this year Pokerstars intends to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its popular $215 Sunday Million online poker tournament in a big way…it has allocated a massive $10 million to the guaranteed prize pool, ensuring that the winner will walk away withat least $1 million.
In a press release this week the company says the special event marks the March 5 2006 advent of the $215 buy-in Sunday Million, in which 5,893 players competed for a prize pool of $1,178,600, showing how much the industry (and the company) has grown over the last decade.
New attractive features have been added to the special edition tournament; players can re-enter up to three times in the first three hours of action; there will be 1,200 free entries distributed by Pokerstars through hyper-turbo freerolls every Saturday through March 19; and special real money and StarsCoin are also planned scheduled.
Adding to the coverage and excitement, professional players George Danzer, Betrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Jorge Limon, Felix Schneiders and Jaime Staples have confirmed they’ll be hosting live streams during the tournament on their Twitch.tv channels.
The presser advises that a slew of Pokerstars pros will be playing in the tournament, incoluding Chris Moneymaker, Theo Jorgensen, George Danzer, Mickey Petersen and Johnny Lodden.
Past attendances at these special events have produced very large entry fields; for example on 18 December 2011 a similar tournament pulled in 62,116 players, creating a $12,423,200 prize pool, and on June 6 that year another competition attracted 59,129 players and generated a prize pool of $11,825,600.
More recently, a special on 15 March last year registered 50,432 entries and created a $10,086,000 prize pool.
