US poker pro Darren Elias has joined the exclusive company of players who have won three or more World Poker Tour titles, becoming the fifth member of a group that includes Chino Rheem, Anthony Zinno, Carlos Mortensen and Gus Hansen.
He clinched his third title at the Cdn$ 5,000 buy-in WPT Fallsview main event in Canada this week, besting a stellar field of 489 to claim the honours and the $335,436 main prize.
Elias’s previous wins took place in 2014 at the WPT Borgata Championship in which he took home $843,744, and the WPT St Maarten, which boosted his bank balance by a further $127,680.
Elias entered the heads up stage against fellow US pro David Eldridge with a small chip advantage, but managed to leverage it into a convincing victory after just three hands, sending Eldridge home with a still-impressive runner up prize of Cdn$224,613.
Other final table cashes were:
Jean-Christophe Ferreira Cdn$144,465
Andrew Chen Cdn$106,865
Manig Loeser Cdn$80,149
Abdul Hassan Cdn$64,316
