Romanian poker ace Traian Bostan banked Euro 100,000 this weekend after winning the Euro 1,100 buy-in Unibet Poker Open Bucharest main event hosted by the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel.
It was the biggest Unibet Open main event yet, with 603 entries and the winner staging a remarkable comeback after starting the final table as the low stack.
The final day of the competition saw Brit player Eli Heath in the lead over fifteen survivors, and indeed he performed well throughout the day, being bested only by Bostan in the heads up after a tough battle.
The composition of the final table illustrated the skills of local players, with seven of the nine finalists all from the host country.
When local player Adrian Stefan Calusaru fell to Bostan at third for Euro 40,200 the stage was set for the heads up between Heath and Bostan, with the latter holding the advantage in a final confrontation that turned out to be a hard-fought and entertaining back-and-forth between two very skilful and determined players.
In the end it was Bostan who emerged the victor, sending a very worthy opponent home with a runner-up prize of Euro 64,200.
Bostan’s Euro 100,000 first prize was augmented by a Pokerfest.ro last longer bonus travel and accommodation package to the 2017 Unibet Poker Open in London.
The remaining final table cashes looked like this:
Cosmin Cimpeanu Euro 32,800
Gabriel Gavrila Euro 25,200
Dan Murariu Euro 19,400
Eugen Chiva Euro 15,500
Ionut-Alin Tambura Euro 12,400
Juho Launonen from Finland – the only other non-Romanian at the table) Euro 9,910.
