Forum and social media posts this week appear to indicate that the Winning Poker Network has pulled out of the Australian market, although there is a marked lack of official notification to that effect from the company, leaving the reasons for the move open to speculation.
The obvious rationale for the decision is the Australian government’s hostile attitude to online gambling, which has seen most of the big-name operators departing the Australian market over the past year.
The decision impacts players with accounts at Americas Cardroom, Black Chip Poker, True Poker, and Ya Poker, and a number of players have reported log-in notifications from August 25 advising that due to developments in Australian law the WPN no longer allows customers from Australia to play at any of those online poker sites.
One player also reported that a service rep at Black Chip Poker confirmed that “as per regulations we are actually stopping service for Australia.”
When InfoPowa went to press late Friday night a response was still awaited from WPN.
