World Poker Tour chief Adam Pliska has announced that his organisation is planning a tournament in Japan – it’s first in that nation – for November 23 – 26 this year.
WPT is partnering with the Japan Poker Union Corporation on the initiative, which is part of an Asia Pacific push that has seen WPT engage with the Chinese and Indian markets through WPT Beijing and WPT India.
In the run-up to the November main event, qualifying competitions will be held in local Japanese clubs. Due to legal considerations there will be no cash prizes, and the organisers will instead offer travel and accommodation packages to major events like the Season XVII WPT Main Tour event in Beijing, and another event of their choice in the Asia-Pacific region.
