The World Poker Tour has confirmed that it is embarking on an expansion drive in Asia, principally targeting Vietnam and India with new tournaments.
The company plans a three-week swing through the region, starting with a Japanese tournament mid-September, another in Korea in the third week of September, and WPT Vietnam, which will be hosted by Ho Chi Minh’s Pro Poker Club on September 26. The Vietnam schedule includes a $500 WPT Pro Poker Club Superstack Classic and a $1,000 Main Event.
Part of the Korean drive includes a $5,000 buy-in team event which will see 16 teams of four players each compete in Omaha and NLHE competitions, with four seats in the WPT Korea Main Event the prize. Several teams have already signed up, including Singapore, the UK, Australia and the United States.
There are also plans for more poker action in India in November when WPT will return for a second week-long visit to the Deltin Royale Casino in Goa beginning November 13, reinforcing its presence on the often controversial Indian poker scene.
