Poker orientated entertainment company and co-owner of the World Poker Channel, World Poker Fund Holdings, Inc. (WPFH) said Tuesday it had acquired the tournament and show rights for the now defunct International Poker League (IPL) (formerly known as the National Poker League) and the IPL Vegas Open.
The IPL Vegas Open includes 20 episodes of the Caesars Vegas Open, Venetian Vegas Open and the UK Open tournaments.
The episodes will be flighted on Lookhu.com through WPFH’s World Poker Channel.
Our readers will recall an article early in July where the company outlined its latest poker project plans spanning TV, internet and land-based channels (see previous report).
WPFH is majority owned by Lookhu, Inc. with other beneficial owners of the company listed as American boxer Floyd Mayweather and American entertainer’s Kyle Massey, Justin Bieber, Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, Jason Paul Douglas Boyd (holding 10.02 percent), and De Andre Cortez Way aka Soulja Boy (5.02 percent).
In related news, WPFH named Martin D. Owens its new chief advisor of online and interactive gaming.
Owens has specialised in online and interactive gaming law since 1998. He is the co-author alongside Professor I. Nelson Rose of Internet Gaming Law, an associate editor of Gaming Law Review and Economics, and also the contributing editor of The Sports Network.com.
“This is a very exciting project. The players, the technology, the platforms are all coming together right here in California. It’s time to bring online poker up to its full potential, in the USA and all over the world,” he said.
