Beijing-based Ourgames International, which bought the World Poker Tour brand from Bwin.Party for $35 million in cash last year (see previous reports), has announced that it has plans for increased activity in the eSports field, opening the first of several compact international arenas custom designed for the vertical in Beijing this month.
With plans that include a venue in Las Vegas, the company is prepared to go head-to-head with competitors operating eSports arenas in major centres like KeyArena in Seattle, the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and Madison Square Garden in New York, according to local media reports.
Frank Ng, CEO of Ourgame, has revealed that the company has set a 3 to 5 year timeline for its objectives, with a typical format comprising 200 seats, gaming stations, a broadcast studio and other facilities within a 14,000 sq. foot building.
