WSOP announces first online event.

The always innovative organisers at the traditionally land-based World Series of Poker (other than internet satellites for seats in land events) have introduced a new – and the first – online event for this year’s edition of the prestigious Las Vegas tournament.

The event will see the initial action taking place online, with the final surviving six players then moved to Las Vegas to compete face to face around a live final table.

WSOP is currently seeking approval for the new event from the Nevada regulator, revealing that it will be a $1,000 buy-in Online Texas Hold’em No Limit competition in which the final table will commence on July 4 this year.

Players in Nevada will be able to enter the event online through the WSOP site, and it will be played down to the final six survivors before halting to be translated into a live event for the final table action.

The event, listed as number 64 on this year’s WSOP program, will be a bracelet competition.
