Chinese poker pro Yang Zhang is $100,000 wealthier this week after taking the honours in the 2014 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Beijing in a noteworthy follow up to his July 2014 victory in the Beijing Millions, where he survived a field of 2,732 to win a similar amount (see previous report).
346 hopefuls, mainly from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, entered for last week’s $1,500 buy-in event, creating a prize pool worth almost half a million dollars and ensuring that the last 38 players standing would cash.
After several days Zhang faced a final table that comprised Yonggang Wang, Zhi Lin, Jiajun Hu, Qing Liu, Zicheng Yang, Yueyang Yang and Chao Huang, all from China; Ka Cheong Wong from Hong Kong; and Korean player Joon-han Lee.
Following the departure of Zhi Lin at third for $40,740, the heads up between Zhang and Yonggang Wang was a brief affair that saw Zhang emerge decisively as the winner, leaving his fellow countryman with a runner up prize of $68,000.
